Palibex has entered the nautical world with their participation in the emblematic regatta Copa del Rey MAPFRE, held in Palma de Mallorca between the 30 th of July and the 6 th of August.

Palibex’s Sailing team debut has coincided with the network’s 10 th birthday celebration and with the 40 th anniversary of the prestigious Copa del Rey, where more than one hundred boats have participated.

In their first international participation, the PBX Sailing Team has had memorable moments such as reaching podium positions during the championship despite the early stages of the project. Aware of their future potential, the team is working on bringing out the maximum performance in their next participation at the Copa del Rey MAPFRE 2023.

Jaime Colsa, Palibex’s CEO and one of the men on board, is pleased with their participation in the sailing world: “We are happy because it is a championship of maximum level and we have been able to confront very strong rivals and get better every day”.

The express transport network has decided to promote this regatta team because sailing combines the main core values of their corporate culture: “Our daily work also requires effort, teamwork, and the ability to overcome complicated situations. Only then we can ensure a perfect functioning and that the goods get delivered on time and in the best conditions possible to their destinations”, highlights Jaime Colsa.

“In addition to the respect we have for the environment, what appeals to us the most about this sport is that it encourages fellowship and collaboration, two main pillars of Palibex’s philosophy that follow us everywhere we go: both land and sea”, he adds.

Similarly to the Rally Dakar, Palibex wants to claim the importance of having a good team, both in sports and in the work environment, as well as enjoying the experience with all the people that are part of the company”.

The PBX Sailing Team, supported by Real Club Marítimo de Santander and Real Club Náutico de Valencia, created by Jaime Colsa and José Vicent, has a crew of important sportsmen like the Portuguese Nuno Barreto (bronze medal in Atlanta 1996), the canary Nano Negrín, that has developed tactical functions, or Carlos Martínez, also world champion from Cantabria.

The list of names of people that have been part of the Palibex team is completed with Nico Linares, Santiago Fiochi, Fernando Sauquillo, Alejandro Ramos, Joan Lladó, Javier Abril, Eduardo Navarro, David Peiro, and Gustavo Benavent, all experienced sportsmen that had already participated in a demanding event like the Copa del Rey MAPFRE.

In this first citation, the PBX Sailing Team has participated with a competitive DK46 unit, which they also used as training for the Trofeo SM La Reina, in the ORC1 class, the most numerous with 20 participants. This division, with the boats of greater lengths, is one of the most international ones as they have representation from countries such as Norway, France, Italy, Argentina, Great Britain, Germany, and Belgium.

During the 11 scheduled regattas along the week, the Palibex team had to face similar units such as Estrella Damm or HM Hospitales, as well as TP52 AIFOS 500.
